It’s essential to use an eDiscovery platform if you are a litigation attorney. The problem is that small firms just can’t afford big name platforms. I suggest that my clients use Goldfynch. It’s fairly user-friendly and has everything necessary to review, produce, and view eDiscovery documents. The platform can be found here: https://goldfynch.com/
What I like best about Goldfynch is that you do not pay for project management, uploading files, purging files, and monthly fees to use it. Let’s take a look at the cost comparison below:
Goldfynch | Cost | Some competitor platforms | Average Cost across competitor platforms |
Upload of documents | $0 10 minutes and the knowledge to do it | Upload of documents by Project Manager (average PM rate $190-250 per hour) | Depending on GB size- $400 or more |
Purge Documents | $0 10 minutes and the knowledge to do it | Purge of documents by Project Manager (average PM rate $190-250 per hour) | Depending on GB size- $400 or more |
Monthly user fee | $0 | User fee for each party accessing the platform | Around $75/person |
Cost per GB to host | 3 GB @ $27/month 5 GB @ $38/month 10 GB @ $76/month
The billing is prorated based on start/end dates. You can upgrade or downgrade your case at any time, and it’s prorated. | Cost per GB Active
Cost per GB Inactive “Nearline” (inactive/no access) This is usually done when pending appeal.
| 3 GB @ $24/month 5 GB @ $40/month 10 GB @ $80/month
3 GB @ $6/month 5 GB @ $10/month 10 GB $20/month |
Project Manager Contact/Communication | N/A No Project Manager costs, but customer service is free | Project Manager Contact/Communication
You will be charged for any contact with the project manager. Even for brief questions or issues. | Approximately $190-250/hour (hourly rate rounded to quarter hours) |
Despite paying a little more per GB because Goldfynch does not offer “nearline,” you won’t be paying high costs for access and processing.
Goldfynch software has a broad range of capabilities including:
Search features using complex Boolean searches
Saved search capabilities
OCR of documents (takes the text of a document and makes it searchable)
Automatic Data Classification
Metadata information (who created the document, document modifications, dates and times, and document location)
Identification of duplicate documents
Document tagging
Free document processing
Bates numbering
Redacting
Production Exports
Links to productions for opposing counsel to view produced documents
Cloud based housing with bank grade data security
Goldfynch will even allow you to upload a small set of documents to evaluate the platform, free of charge. It’s well worth looking at for small law office eDiscovery needs.
